
Litecoin vs Bitcoin Cash: a practical payment comparison
Compare LTC and BCH architecture, settlement and total payment costs. Corrects the outdated fixed Bitcoin Cash block-limit description.
Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash both support peer-to-peer value transfer, but their designs and surrounding services differ. A comparison should identify the user's payment path and the evidence behind adoption claims.

A block limit is not the same as actual usage or observed transactions per second. Transaction sizes and demand matter, and unused capacity is not evidence of adoption.
A shorter block target is not an identical security guarantee
Waiting for one block on each network does not create a like-for-like security comparison. The recipient's policy should consider the transaction value, chain conditions and its own exposure.
Unconfirmed acceptance adds a different risk model. A wallet showing a broadcast transaction is not the same as the recipient verifying settlement. Merchants need an explicit policy for confirmation, exceptions and refunds.
Raw hash rates also cannot be compared across Scrypt and SHA-256 as if the units measured interchangeable work. Hardware, algorithm and mining economics differ.
Compare the amount the recipient can actually use
For a fiat-denominated invoice, measure the complete route:
- Acquire the asset, if necessary, including spread and trading charges.
- Withdraw or send it, distinguishing the service charge from the network fee.
- Confirm receipt using the exact network and destination.
- Convert or retain the asset according to the merchant's needs.
- Account for refunds, reconciliation and any later price movement.

Adoption claims need a denominator
“More merchants,” “higher payment share” and “more transactions” can all be true within a narrow dataset while saying little about the whole economy.

A processor's customer mix is not a representative census of all merchants. A large on-chain transaction may be custody reorganisation rather than a retail purchase.
Stablecoins are a comparison, not an automatic verdict
A stablecoin can reduce exposure to the quoted fiat unit, but adds its own issuer, reserve, redemption and network considerations. A custodial payment app can simplify checkout while changing who controls funds and can reverse or freeze transfers.
The relevant choice depends on the goal. A merchant seeking local-currency proceeds may evaluate a different set of trade-offs from a user seeking self-custody of a native asset.
A defensible comparison reports those trade-offs and a dated test scenario. It does not need to declare a universal winner.
